For your interest only, here is a small selection of snuff mortars from my own collection. All are late 17th and early 18th century in lignum, ivory and fruitwoods.

Our own town of Winchcombe played a pivotal role in the production of tobacco, despite acts of Parliament, armed sheriffs and military guard, the people of the town grew tobacco as a valuable cash crop for over 70 years, waging war in the fields to protect  their livelihoods.
